Interim Clinical Guidance during the Multistate Fungal Meningitis Outbreak Investigation

Overview

CDC, in collaboration with state and local health departments and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is investigating a multistate fungal meningitis outbreak among patients who received contaminated steroid injections. Close follow-up of these patients is needed to understand important clinical questions, such as the optimal medications, dosage, and duration of treatment. To provide guidance on these important clinical issues, CDC, in consultation with experts in the diagnosis and treatment of fungal infections, has drafted interim treatment guidelines for persons exposed to potentially contaminated steroid products.  During this COCA Call, subject matter experts will provide updates to the current epidemiology of the outbreak and discuss CDC’s recommended treatment guidance and rationale.
