Management Officer

Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services

Office of Public Health Scientific Services

Brooke Tripp serves as the Management Official in the Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services (CSELS). Brooke joined CSELS on a detail in April of 2014 and became the permanent Management Official in August 2014. Her leadership during this transition period was instrumental in developing a working plan of the Management and Analysis Services Office (MASO) package to finalize CSELS form and function, standing up cross-cutting center-level groups, such as an Awards Committee, a Diversity Council, and an Employee Engagement Committee, and formulating a strategic human capital plan to ensure optimal staff alignment with critical CSELS activities. Her budget experience ensured that critical mission requirements were funded and the budget was balanced going in to the end of the fiscal year.

Prior to joining CSELS,  Brooke served as the Office of Safety, Security, and Asset Management (OSSAM) and Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness (OSEP) Management Official, responsible for the  financial management, policy and communications functions, workforce planning and development, and information technology activities in both offices. During her tenure, she gained extensive experience in standing up new organizations through her work during the OSEP to OSSAM transition, and the consolidation of five business services offices to one organization. She also was a major contributor as CDC evolved its internal security after the events of 9/11 into this new CDC Security Office.

Brooke began her CDC career in the Financial Management Office’s Congressional Legislative Branch in June 2001, where she gained experience with the appropriations cycle and legislative policy as a Presidential Management Fellow. As part of the fellowship program, she was involved in fiscal planning activities for the office and completed a 4-month rotation the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, where she was involved in providing critical information to congressional staffers and developing briefing materials on Birth Defects programs and activities.

Brooke’s undergraduate degree was in Organizational Communications and Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Masters in Public Administration degree from the University of Georgia (UGA), focusing her studies in Finance/Budget and Human Resources and completed an assignment at the General Accounting Office, auditing the efficiency and effectiveness of the US Census Bureau.
