2014 Marks the 50th Anniversary of the First Surgeon General's Report on Smoking and Health
January 2014 On January 17, 2014, the Department of Health and Human Services released “The Health Consequences of Smoking—50 Years of Progress: A Report of the Surgeon General ” at a press conference in Washington, DC. The report highlights major accomplishments in tobacco prevention and control over the past 50 years, presents new data on the health consequences of smoking, and discusses scenarios that can potentially end the tobacco epidemic in the United States.
