Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in the United States, affecting millions of adults. Research funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) states that self-management approaches and occupational and pharmaceutical therapy along with surgery can reduce pain and limit functional disability. As a result of AHRQ-sponsored research, self-management programs have helped prevent disability and improve health status. This document describes relevant research studies and data.
