The guide was developed by a group of clinicians; research, program, and administrative managers; policymakers; and other Federal, State, and independent experts. The group used a systematic and innovative process to compile statistical and demographic information, prevalence data, and case examples. The group also suggested interventions. Designed for both clinicians and administrators, this guide outlines treatment guidelines and approaches as well as organizational policies and procedures. The document is meant to be used as a reference tool for clinicians. It also serves as a program guide for administrators to implement appropriate diagnosis and treatment approaches for LGBT patients and to ensure the development or enhancement of LGBT-sensitive programs. The publication was first printed in 2001, and revised in 2003, 2009, and 2012.
