This report establishes a set of reference values for dietary energy and macronutrients for healthy individuals and populations in the United States and Canada. The report includes guidelines for partitioning energy sources (Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges) compatible with decreasing the risk of obesity and other chronic diseases, and also provides a definition for dietary fiber. The association between obesity and dietary fat, dietary carbohydrate, dietary fiber, and physical activity are individually discussed and referenced.
