The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) was formed in 1998 to bring more attention to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management and prevention. By increasing awareness, GOLD aims to help COPD sufferers and prevent premature death. This report presents a new management approach for COPD that can be used in a variety of settings; the approach matches objectives for COPD assessment and treatment in order to individualize the patient’s therapy.
