Caring for Patients with Ebola in U.S. Hospitals: A Nursing Perspective
Health care organizations across the country are preparing to respond to the possibility of Ebola cases in their communities. Several U.S. hospitals have treated patients with the disease and can provide important information to other health care workers related to personal protective equipment, staffing models, and critical care nursing. Ebola Preparedness for Hospital Based Emergency Providers
Hospital based emergency providers are invited to participate in a conference call with leaders from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on preparing for possible Ebola cases. During this call, leaders will discuss the evaluation and management of patients who present with possible Ebola Virus Disease and provide an overview of the Identify, Isolate, Inform: Emergency Department Evaluation and Management for Patients Who Present with Possible Ebola Virus Disease guidance and algorithm. October 23, 2014: Experts from HHS reviewed the Checklist for Healthcare Coalitions for Ebola Preparedness, which provides practical and specific suggestions to ensure healthcare coalition members are able to detect possible Ebola cases, protect employees, and respond appropriately. Hospital executives, emergency management directors and safety officers across the United States participated in a conference call with leaders from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on preparing healthcare systems to protect health and safety should an Ebola patient present at your facility. The call included representatives from the HHS Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the HHS Intergovernmental and External Affairs Office.

Ebola Preparedness for Emergency Medical Services
October 22, 2014: ASPR and CDC staff discussed the Detailed Emergency Medical Services Checklist for Ebola Preparedness, which highlights activities that EMS agencies and systems should consider to prepare for managing patients with Ebola and other infectious diseases. Additionally, CDC collaborated with staff and representatives from the Federal Interagency Committee on EMS (FICEMS) to develop Interim Guidance for Emergency Medical Services Systems and 911 PSAPs. FICEMS staff discussed this guidance, which is intended to help managers understand and explain to staff how to respond and stay safe and by individual providers to respond to suspected Ebola patients and to stay safe.View Webinar
