2761 Health and Human Services Html en January is Cervical Health Awareness Month! January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. Cervical cancer is a disease that affects the female reproductive system. Cervical cancer is a preventable disease caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus that can be passed from one person to another during sex. Cervical cancer is highly preventable because screening tests (such as the Pap test), and vaccines to prevent HPV infections are available. When cervical cancer is found early, it is highly treatable and associated with long survival and good quality of life.
