8567 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Html en PanFlu Storybook - Finding A Cure, Elmer "Bud" Pancake Finding A Cure, One of the most important challenges, for health communicators today, is helping the public to understand that a flu shot will not be readily available when the next pandemic strikes. Once the virus is identified, it will take several months to produce a vaccine. In 1918, in desperation, people tried a variety of methods to cure the sick —some practical and effective, others questionable and even amusing.

11801 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Html en Preventing Chronic Disease | Rationale for New York City'sRegulations on Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Screen Time inEarly Child Care Centers - CDC Childhood obesity is associated with health risks in childhood, and it increases the risk of adult obesity, which is associated with many chronic diseases. Therefore, implementing policies that may prevent obesity at young ages is important. In 2007, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene implemented new regulations for early childhood centers to increase physical activity, limit screen time, and provide healthful beverage offerings (ie, restrict sugar-sweetened beverages for all children, restrict whole milk for those older than 2 years, restrict juice to beverages that are 100% juice and limit serving of juice to only 6 ounces per day, and make water available and accessible at all times). This article explains why these amendments to the Health Code were created, how information about these changes was disseminated, and what training programs were used to help ensure implementation, particularly in high-need neighborhoods.

12628 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Video en Director's Briefing: Latest on MRSA In the past decade, many of our country's biggest breakthroughs in preventing deadly infections in hospitals and other healthcare settings have come from the great work of the scientists here at CDC. In this Director's Briefing video, CDC Director Tom Frieden, MD, MPH, talks about new CDC research on MRSA, a serious healthcare-associated infection. Scientists studied 74,000 patients and found two simple solutions that can cut deadly infections by MRSA and other dangerous germs by nearly half.
