12629 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Video en Director's Briefing: Impact of Tips from Former Smokers Campaign Last year, CDC launched the Tips from Former Smokers campaign (www.cdc.gov/tips). We ran hard-hitting ads that vividly illustrated the damage caused by smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke, encouraged quitting, and offered help to those who wanted it. By the time it was over, the campaign prompted nearly a quarter of a million Americans to quit smoking, and more than 100,000 will likely remain quit. After they saw the ads, millions of nonsmokers talked to friends and family about the dangers of smoking and referred them to programs that could help them quit and save their lives.
